My professional interests lie with Information Architecture (IA), User Experience (UX) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).

Information Architecture

• To keep the local Information Architects in touch with each other, I organize IA Cocktail Hours in Amsterdam.
• I helped organize the EURO IA conference and hope to attend similar future events.
• I've served on the organizing committee of the IA Summit of 2004 (where I presented the J-Flow), the edition of 2005 (where I presented StUX), and this year's edition where I attended and learned and enjoyed the company.
• Every IA should be a member of the IA Institute and read the SIGIA-L mailing list.

User Experience

• My employer, Info.nl offers a range of user experience services, and I help design them, being the Senior Experience Designer.
• Bookmark UXnet. There may not be a lot there right now, but the idea is that they will become the central source for user experience related news, events, mailinglists, etc.
• DUX is a bi-annual conference for UX-types.

Human-Computer Interaction

• I try to keep my knowledge up-to-date and help the HCI community by being an active member of SIGCHI.NL, the Dutch platform for HCI-people. I was member of the board of SIGCHI.NL in the period 2000-2002 and helped organize several of them, including The Web and Beyond, the 2006 event.
• CHI is the major conference for HCI specialists from all over the world. I have attended them from 1997 to 2003.
  • After CHI'2003 I wrote a CHI2003 Trip Report for colleagues (available as 4.5 MB word document and 3.9 MB Powerpoint presentation.
  • At CHI'2002 I organized a workshop on HCI & Information Architecture, together with Keith Instone, Lisa Chan and George Olsen.
  • At CHI'2001 I organized an informal SIG on Usability in the Org Chart.
  • For CHI'2000 I wrote a position paper on Branding, Trust and User Experience with two of my colleagues.
  • During CHI'99 I hosted a Special Interest Group called Making Minds Meet in Your Local Chapter: The Case of SIGCHI.NL.
• Every aspect of HCI for the web is covered in the CHI-WEB mailing list

Work

My current job title is Senior Experience Designer for Info.nl, on of the older interactive/web design agencies in The Netherlands.

During the second half of 2005, I was a Managing Partner as well as Consultant User Experience for User Intelligence,a User Experience collective based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

From December 2002 to June 2005 I worked as senior information architect for e-Government Technology Specialists EzGov Europe. Before that I worked for the web/mobile agency Satama Interactive as a Consultant User Understanding (2000-2002), for General Design as a senior user interface designer (1995-2000) and I worked for six months (1995) at Twente University where I continued my Master's Thesis work on Experimental Research into Usability and Organizational Impact of Workflow Software (750KB .pdf).

Life

I live in Amsterdam. I travel by bike to work every day (well, weekdays mostly), which is a 15 minute ride. Spare time is spent with my girlfriend (if she's not working for her company IdeaCompany), snowboarding, going out with friends, and laying on the couch in front of the TV, reading of course ;-)
